Will AI replace Reporters and Correspondents?

Why this score

AI is already writing routine news stories — earnings reports, sports recaps, crime briefs, weather summaries — that once filled reporters' days. Wire-service rewrites, data-driven articles, and basic event coverage are being generated at scale by tools like those deployed at Associated Press and Gannett properties. The economic incentive for newsrooms to replace these tasks is severe, given shrinking ad revenue and the low cost of AI-generated copy. The question is not whether your beat will be affected, but whether the reporting you do is something a model can replicate from a press release and a public database.

This score describes the occupation across the US, not any individual. The explanation is AI-generated from AI² Index scores and may contain errors. Not career advice.
